About the Owner

Piano Tuning

Marty Busch has been a full time piano tuner-technician for over 35 years. He began during his final year of college by tuning for a piano dealer and taking over the business from an older brother. For 17 years, Marty tuned and maintained all of the pianos at the UW-Platteville. During this time he tuned for over 75 concerts at the UWP Center for the Arts.

During his career he has provided reliable, competent service to over 30 school districts, hundreds of churches, many institutions, clubs, music venues, and literally thousands of private homes and commercial venues.

Marty Busch has always owned a complete rebuilding shop where he has restored pianos, nickelodeons, and player pianos for collectors such as Dr. Robert Gilson, and the House on the Rock.

To date around 50 player pianos, 60 grands and as many uprights have been fully restored by Mr. Busch.

In 1987, Marty began retailing with a small showroom displaying Charles R. Walter Pianos, which he still sells and services today. Since then, Young Chang, Roland, and PianoDisc have been added to the lineup.

In 1992, Marty attended the PianoDisc installation school in Sacramento, CA, and has since sold, installed, and serviced many of these systems.

Recently, he has been awarded the “Field Expert” designation by the Dampp-Chaser co. for experience in the sales and installation of humidity control systems.

Mr. Busch is an active professional musician, holding a BA in music and is an associate member of the Madison chapter of The Piano Technicians Guild.

Past performances include playing in the Disney All-American College Band, Kids from Wisconsin, Wisconsin Honors Orchestra and Band, and with Professionals such as Johnny Mathis and Frank Sinatra, Jr.

Currently, Marty plays the trombone with numerous professional groups in the area including the Larry Busch Band, Ken Kilian Saxtet, Hunter Fuerste Orchestra, Joe Scalissi, and also the Great River Big Band of LaCrosse, WI . Mr. Busch sings in the St. Clement church choir, and plays in the Lancaster Community band, which as a volunteer he helps to coordinate.

Mr. Busch has been recognized as an outstanding volunteer by Badger Camp for his annual donation of a piano and its tuning for the annual Badger Camp Telethon at UW-Platteville.

His hobbies include studying and speaking German, home brewing, and restoring his 1905 crafstman home where he and his wife of 35 years raised their four children.

The two main reasons a piano goes out of tune: humidity changes and time.
